John Coltrane-You Leave Me Breathless

During a brief hiatus from Miles Davis, John Coltrane recorded the album Traneing In on August 23, 1957, with the assistance of Davis' rhythm section at the time: Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on Bass, and Art Taylor on drums. The album is somewhat standard fair, with a decent rendering of Coltrane's Traneing In assisted by a strong swing from Garland and company. I chose to note it herein because of the inclusion of another stunning ballad rendition: You Leave Me Breathless. Coltrane's passion and brilliance on the ballad remained a constant throughout his brief, but stylistically diverse, career. One could spend a significant period of listening time just dissecting and relishing his slow, beautiful interpretations of these pieces.
